Terms
Terms of Use
Last updated: 10 September 2026
These Terms govern use of Clem, provided by HBSS Limited (company number 14252673). By creating a parent account, you agree to these Terms on behalf of yourself and any child account you create.
2.1 Who can use Clem
Clem is designed for use by children under the supervision of a parent or guardian account holder. A parent or guardian must create and control the account; children do not sign up independently. The parent account holder is responsible for the accuracy of information provided and for their child's appropriate use of the service.
You must be 18 or over to create a parent/guardian account. At sign-up we require you to declare that you are 18 or over and to confirm you are the parent or legal guardian of the child(ren) who will use the account. We do not ask for your date of birth. Misrepresenting your age or parental status to access the service on behalf of a child is a material breach of these Terms and may result in the account being terminated. Clem is not responsible for a child obtaining access because an adult misrepresented their age or identity.
Each child using Clem must have their own profile within the parent account. A single child profile may not be shared between multiple children, and the access link we issue for a child is for use within your household only.
2.2 What Clem is (and isn't)
Clem is an AI-assisted learning tool that helps children prepare for GCSE examinations (secondary) and the 11-plus (11+) entrance exams (primary), and additionally teaches Life Skills (Financial Literacy, Emotional Intelligence, Storytelling & Selling, and Staying Safe), Languages (Mandarin Chinese and Yoruba), and daily Affirmations. Clem adapts its teaching voice and language to the learner's stage — simpler and gentler for primary children, clearer subject-specific language for secondary students. Life Skills scenarios are fictional and educational; Clem never gives real financial advice, never recommends specific products, and never blames a child for another person's behaviour. Clem is designed to support and supplement — not replace — a child's school education. We do not guarantee any specific grade or outcome; educational results depend on many factors outside our control, including individual effort, school teaching, and exam performance on the day.
2.3 AI-generated content and how we keep it accurate
Clem uses AI to teach and generate practice content. AI systems can occasionally produce incorrect or misleading output — sometimes called "hallucination" — despite our efforts to reduce this risk. Unlike a professional tool used by adults, we do not ask a child to independently verify what Clem tells them. Instead, the responsibility for accuracy sits with us: Clem is grounded in a vetted curriculum content bank rather than open-ended generation, lesson content is reviewed by qualified subject teachers before publication, and flagged uncertainty is routed to a human Teacher Reviewer rather than guessed at. If a parent believes Clem has taught something incorrect, please tell us at info@hbssuk.com so we can review and correct it — we treat this as a priority, not routine feedback.
2.4 Accounts and access
- One parent/guardian account may link multiple child profiles, but each child profile is for a single named child.
- Each child access link we issue is bound to the first device it is opened on. It will not work if shared to a different device. This is to stop a profile being shared outside your household or used for a child it wasn't set up for.
- The grown-up (parent) area is gated behind your account password or your Google sign-in — a child cannot reach it with only their PIN.
- The parent account holder is responsible for keeping login credentials, child PINs and access links secure and for all activity under linked child accounts.
- We may suspend or terminate an account for misuse, including sharing a child profile or link between children, falsely declaring 18+ or parental status, or attempts to circumvent safeguarding or content safety systems.
2.5 Subscriptions and payment
Clem is sold as a family membership in two tiers: Family (£23 per month, covering up to 2 children) and Family Plus (£46 per month, covering up to 5 children). Both tiers include every subject and exam track — GCSE, 11+, SATs and enrichment — together with Life Skills, Languages and daily Affirmations, configurable per child from the guardian page. Membership is offered with a 14-day free trial; you will not be charged until the trial ends. Membership runs for a 12-month minimum term of monthly payments, after which it renews and can be cancelled at any time from the guardian page. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the current billing period. Refunds are issued at our discretion for clearly unused paid time — contact info@hbssuk.com. Prices may change with reasonable notice; existing members keep their current price for the remainder of their term.
2.6 The coin economy
Coins earned within Clem have no cash value and cannot be bought, sold, or transferred outside the platform. Where real-world rewards are enabled, redemption is processed through the parent account only, subject to the earn caps and conversion rates set out in-app, and HBSS Limited reserves the right to adjust these rates or discontinue the real-reward tier with reasonable notice.
2.7 Acceptable use
Accounts must not be used to attempt to manipulate, "jailbreak," or extract the underlying AI system, to submit content that isn't the student's own for assessment purposes, or in any way that could put another user (or Clem's staff or systems) at risk. We monitor for and act on safeguarding and safety concerns as described in our Safeguarding Policy.
2.8 Intellectual property
Lesson content, question banks, and the Clem character/branding are the property of HBSS Limited or its licensors. Students retain ownership of their own written work (for example essays) submitted through the platform.
2.9 Liability
To the extent permitted by law, HBSS Limited's liability for losses arising from use of Clem is limited to the amount paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £100, whichever is greater, except where liability cannot legally be limited (including for death, personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud). Nothing in these Terms limits our safeguarding obligations or a user's statutory rights.
We do not require a parent or child to indemnify HBSS Limited for ordinary use of Clem. Where a user has clearly and deliberately misused the platform in breach of Section 2.7 causing us direct loss, we reserve the right to seek reasonable recovery — but this is not a broad indemnity clause of the kind used in adult-professional software terms, and is deliberately narrower given our users are children.
2.10 Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Where changes are material, we'll notify the parent account holder at least 14 days before they take effect.
2.11 Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
