Cookie Policy
Last updated: 10 September 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how HBSS Limited uses cookies and similar technologies on the Clem platform. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
3.1 What are cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on a device when using a website or app, used to make the service work, remember preferences, and understand usage. References to cookies here also cover similar technologies like local storage and session storage.
3.2 The cookies we use
- Strictly necessary cookies: required for the platform to function — login sessions and security tokens. These don't require consent and can't be turned off through the cookie settings.
- Device identifier (local storage): a per-device identifier stored in your browser's local storage so your child's access link binds to the first device it is opened on and cannot be shared to another device. This is strictly necessary for link security, is not a cookie, and is never used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
- Functional cookies: remember settings and preferences (for example text size and accessibility settings). Require consent.
- Analytics cookies: help us understand how Clem is used in aggregate, so we can improve it. Data is aggregated and not used to build an individual profile of any child. Require consent.
Clem does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and never will — this isn't a placeholder, it's a product commitment given our users are children.
3.3 Third-party cookies
Our application platform, Base44, may set strictly necessary cookies for authentication and session security. No advertising or cross-site tracking partners are used. Where we add a provider that sets cookies in future, we'll name it here and link to its own privacy/cookie policy before enabling it.
3.4 Cookie consent — how it works
When a visitor first opens Clem, a cookie consent banner appears asking them to accept or reject non-essential cookies. Because Clem's accounts are parent-controlled, the consent choice is made by the parent account holder — it is never presented as a banner a child clicks through mid-lesson. Non-essential cookies (functional, analytics) default to off until the parent actively opts in, consistent with the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code recommendation that privacy settings default to the most protective option for children. The parent can change their choice at any time by clearing browser storage or contacting us.
3.5 Browser controls
Parents can also control cookies through browser settings. Disabling strictly necessary cookies may stop core parts of Clem working. Guidance is available from the ICO at ico.org.uk/for-the-public/online/cookies.
3.6 Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the cookies and technologies we use. The date at the top will always reflect the latest update.
